I've concluded there must be something corrupted in my installation so I am going to reinstall a more up-to-date PCLinux distro over the next few days and take it from there. So I installed it and it worked! ftp successfully installed on Knoppix!īut I repeat, there is no plain vanilla ftp on PCLinux's synaptic. So I went into Knoppix's Synaptic, and there lo and behold is plain vanilla 'ftp'.
An ftp command produces the usual 'command not found' response. It so happens I have Knoppix on another partition, which I rarely use because I don't like it. None of them give me a response to the simple 'ftp' command, so still no ftp on my system And I repeat, there is no plain and simple 'ftp' on Synaptic in PCLinux. I have tried installing atftp, bare-ftp and pure-ftp as well as one or two others with 'ftp' in the name. Thank you to all of you who have offered suggestions to get me round my connection problem.
You will now be able to access your system using a ftp client from another system. At the ftp> type in quit to exit and then close the console window. The server is working and responding to requests.

Until that is done, nobody is going to be able to help you.įWIW proftpd is probably the easiest to use without having to mess with the configuration files. Once installed you will need to make sure the service is configured and running. You need to install the FTP server in PCLinuxOS! Either install pure-ftpd, proftpd or vsftpd from synaptic.
